- Does White Tea contain caffeine?
White tea does contain caffeine. Keep in mind that white tea comes from Camellia sinensis, from which is also made green tea and black tea. White tea contains between 50 to 65 mg of caffeine per cup. If you are sensitive to caffeine, we suggest that you steep your tea for 1 minute, throw away the tea, and make a second infusion. This second infusion will be much reduced in caffeine.
- Do you have any decaffeinated teas?
All of our "La CourTisane" herbal teas are caffeine free. If you love green tea, we suggest that you try our Organic Decaffeinated green tea. This precious tea is from the prestigious Darjeeling region.
- How is your green tea decaffeinated?
The method used for removing caffeine is called "CO2" process. CO2, also known as carbon dioxide is the safest way to remove caffeine as it does not leave any chemical residue on the tea leaves. In addition, only caffeine is removed, preserving the tea's antioxidant content intact.
Understanding decaffeination process
The tea leaves are decaffeinated with carbon dioxide under super critical conditions. Carbon dioxide is a natural substance (it is in the air we breathe) which leaves no residues on the tea leaves. In addition, this process does not alter the polyphenol content of the tea.
- Do you have any specific recommendation for preparing green teas?
For delicious taste every time, we recommend that you steep green tea with hot water which has cooled down for a couple of minutes. The boiling water can sometimes alter the delicateness and flavor of the green tea. This same statement can be made in regards with white tea.
However this is slightly different for steeping tea in its loose form. Green teas and White teas in loose form should be steeped 4-5 minutes. In teabags, white tea should be steeped 2-3 minutes. Green tea should be steeped 3 to 4 minutes. Using good quality filtered water can also guarantee a much delicious taste than tap water!
- What are the teas or herbal teas that you recommend for pregnant or lactating women ?
It is always wise to check with your health care practitioner before drinking any teas or herbal teas.
- I'm allergic to gluten. Do your teas contain these?
Our La CourTisane and Four O'Clock teas do not contain wheat or gluten as an ingredient. However, since our products are made from various herbs and flavours coming from various suppliers all over the world, they may at some point have come in contact with gluten related products. Therefore, we cannot at this point guarantee that our products are 100 % gluten free.
